Grace Baptist Church recently hosted our first ever Super Saturday Service and what a great day it was. We went out visiting on Thursday before and signed up adults, teens and children to be a part of a special church service on the following Saturday. We signed up 53 people to attend our Super Saturday Service with a total of 22 arriving on our van for the service that morning. (We did make two trips to pick the people up.)
When the folks arrived, we had some "action"songs (like Father Abraham, Jesus is the Rock of My Salvation, etc.), then went into age respective classes and each teacher taught a lesson with a strong salvation emphasis. After that we had a regular preaching service, gave out some prizes, had lunch and played a few games. After the service was over, we gave each first time visitor a copy of The Gospel According to John and Romans and each Sunday School teacher had a list of contacts for their class. Since then, we've been following up with visits and we've had a few of them visit for our Sunday Morning services!
We are looking forward to our second SUPER SATURDAY SERVICE on February 20, 2010.
SECOND SUPER SATURDAY SERVICE
The second SUPER SATURDAY SERVICE was held on February 20 and was just as good as the first! Though we had about the same number of people (55), we had some new faces as well as some returning folks. All seemed to enjoy themselves through the class time and games. In the preaching service, a message was brought entitled The Burden of the Lost which dealt with the reality of hell. In the service, several young people and teens were under conviction and had many questions after the service. We are in the process of following up on many of these young people in hopes that they will be saved!
Game time was supervised by two of our young men. The participants played two games the month: Flag Tagand Snakes and Worms. In Flag Tag, each participant placed a strip of cloth in their coat pocket or collar and the other folks had to try to pull the flag from your possession, without touching, while protecting their own. The one who had the most flags at the end of the time limit was declared the winner.
In the second game, pieces of yarn of two different colors were hidden throughout the property of Grace. The young people were divided into two teams and assigned a particular color. The object of the game was to go throughout the property, find the yarn and bring it to a centralized place and tie the pieces of yarn together. The team with the longest strand of yarn wins! It was amazing to watch the "spirit of competition" arise in the adults as well as the children.
Our next SUPER SATURDAY promises to be just as much fun. It is tentatively scheduled for March 27, 2010 at 10am. We will be using a little different schedule of events but should be just as active and exciting as the first two. Hope to see you there!
LADIES FELLOWSHIP On February 27, the ladies of Grace Baptist Church hosted a ladies meeting that emphasized Healing for our Hurts. Two very special speakers gave testimonies and true life experiences of how God was able to help them overcome some very painful hurts they had experienced. It was very beneficial for those who attended to hear that the Bible is a relevant book for the last days hurts that we may experience. Also, knowing that God is keenly aware of our struggles and is available to help us live victoriously over those struggles, was a great comfort for the ladies.
A special thank you is in order to Sister Jenny Philbeck, wife of Pastor Barry Philbeck of Love Valley Baptist Church in Kings Mountain, NC and Sister Grace Shiflett, wife of Pastor Stacey Shiflett of Pleasantview Baptist Church in Taylors, SC, for all that they did to make this day great! Thank you ladies for your help, kind words and testimonies you gave!
